How to reuse a post in Google Classroom
Quick answer
- Open the class you want to post in.
- Go to Classwork › Create › Reuse post (for an announcement, use Reuse post on the Stream).
- Pick the class it came from, then the post.
- Tick Create new copies of all attachments.
- Click Reuse, check the dates, then Assign.
On a computer
- Open the class that should get the post.
- Choose where to start:
- Assignment, question or material: Classwork › Create › Reuse post.
- Announcement: on the Stream, click Reuse post.
- Choose the class that has the post. Then click the post.
- Tick Create new copies of all attachments if the new class should have its own files.
- Click Reuse. The post opens as a new draft; change the dates, topic and points.
- Click Assign, Ask or Post, or use the arrow to Schedule or Save draft.
On iPhone or iPad
On the Stream, tap Reuse post in the "Share with your class" box, or go to Classwork › Add (+) › Reuse post. Pick the class and post, choose whether to create new copies of attachments, then tap Post (or More to schedule or save a draft).
Good to know
- Rubrics come along and can be edited without changing the original.
- You can't send one post to individual students in several classes at once.
- To post the same new assignment to several classes, it's quicker to pick them all in the For box when you create it.
Questions teachers ask
Should I tick "Create new copies of all attachments"?
Usually yes. It puts fresh copies in the new class's Drive folder, so changing a file for this class doesn't change last year's.
I want the whole class, not one post.
Use Copy on the class card instead. It copies every assignment as a draft, plus topics and rubrics. See how to archive and reuse a class.
The post was for a few students. Why did it go to everyone?
A post first sent to individual students reverts to all students when reused. Change the student list before you assign it.
