## About

Help kindergarten learners compare pictured sets containing zero to ten dots. Learners count each set, write its total, choose more, fewer or the same number, and show or tell their teacher why.

The student PDF has eight pages: one worked model and seven sheets with at most three comparisons per sheet. All twenty comparisons have large dots and separate primary numeral guides for Set A and Set B. One question asks learners to evaluate a claim about equal sets. The separate one-page teacher guide includes all twenty keys, model directions, acceptance criteria, specific feedback and access options.

## Readiness

Learners should be able to count each object once through ten, use the last count as the total and recognize numerals zero to ten. The teacher reads directions aloud; independent reading is not required. An empty set represents zero.

## How to use it

1. Introduce the count, write, circle and explain routine on the **Count and compare sets** model sheet before using selected practice sheets. Model matching three dots with five, then equal groups of three and a single empty set.
2. Offer short sets of practice items. Ask learners to point, count or match to justify their choices. Correct counting is sufficient; a numerical difference or subtraction is not required.
3. Discuss the equality claim on the **Check the numbers** sheet. Encourage learners to count dots rather than compare the width or spacing of a row.
4. Keep the **Compare on your own** sheet, items18–20, aside until after practice. Read the printed questions without counting or coaching, and record substantive help before giving feedback.

## Support and extend

Cover other items, accept pointing or AAC, scribe numerals, or use counters and smaller sets during supported practice. Record support so it stays distinct from a first attempt. After the final attempt, ask learners to make a practiced unequal pair equal by adding to its smaller set.

The final three items use new quantity pairs within this packet and ask about more or the same number. Fewer is practiced earlier; this short check does not establish comprehensive mastery or broad transfer. The packet supports CCSS K.CC.C.6 and related one-to-one counting, cardinality and numeral-writing work from zero to ten.

## Students will

- Count each object once in a pictured set of 0–10 and write the total.
- Compare two pictured sets using more, fewer or the same number.
- Show or tell why a comparison is correct using counting or one-to-one matching.
